I met a girl

I met this girl who holds
Anxiety in her hands,
Who bites her nails to forget about it,
Because she believes nobody understands.

She thinks nobody notices her,
But I noticed the room is colder when
She's not there.
She believes nobody would miss her,
But...
I know at least one person who cares,
Because I met this girl
Who is more loved than she knows.

I met this girl; she thinks her beauty is skin-deep.
How could she believe that?
When her heart is one I safely want to keep.
She doesn’t realize parties are created
Just so that she can be invited.
When she walks into the room,
All the lamps are instantly lighted.

What do you do when you meet a girl like that?
Do you just let her go?
Let her become a stranger?
Is she better off being someone else to know?

Because I met this girl who holds a silent plea,
Her eyes searching for someone to truly see her.
Despite an emotionally numb disguise,
It’s what she’s grown up knowing.
As she smiles and talks,
Forcing herself to be perfect
The way she waves, the way she walks
The way people see her
Doesn't reflect the grace of her past.
So she pretends to be sunshine
To escape the shadow that she’s cast.

So when I meet this girl,
She didn’t expect that to change.
What do you do when you meet a girl
Who considers being herself far too strange?
When nobody gave her patience,
When nobody thought she was worth the time,
What else can you do
Except try to hug her with rhyme?

PS: This isn't my original work, but I found it to be beautiful, I’ve changed it a bit!
